The season opener saw Oklahoma City Thunder breezing in over a win against Orlando Magic.

After scoring 30 points for Thunder, Kevin Durant lead the team with a 97-89 victory against Dwight Howard lead Orlando magic. Howard struggled to shoot, with seven misses out of eleven shots.

“We know there are outside expectations,” Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. “But there aren’t absolutes or guarantees. Our guys just work. I know it gets boring at times, but we like that. We’re not going to change. We’re all in the same boat on that. You can never become complacent. It has to be about the team.”

For the past two seasons, Durant lead the team scoring 27.7 last season on average. He had eleven out of nineteen shots, with five rebounds and six assists.

It was James Harden who solidified the Thunder win with 19 points, as well as Kendrick Perkins and Nazr Mohammed who constrained Howard.

In a come from behind win, the Chicago Bulls played a stunning late game victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, finishing at 88-87.

Derrick Rose scored 22 points and hit a short go-ahead jumper with 4.8 seconds to play.

Luol Deng scored 21 points and blocked Kobe Bryant’s short shot right before the buzzer as the Bulls hung on for a thrilling finish to both clubs’ first Christmas meeting.

Kobe Bryant scored 28 points and committed eight turnovers while playing with a torn wrist ligament for the Lakers, who nearly shook off their tumultuous preseason for a surprising win. Instead, Los Angeles was outscored 17-5 in the final 3:36.

Pau Gasol added 14 points for the Lakers, but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter while committing four fouls. Los Angeles also played without suspended center Andrew Bynum and departed sixth man Lamar Odom in the debut of coach Mike Brown, who replaced 11-time champion Phil Jackson.

Chicago finally awoke after Los Angeles pushed its fourth-quarter lead to 82-71 with 3:45 to play. The Bulls’ 10-3 run was abetted by four straight missed free throws by the Lakers before Bryant hit a short fadeaway with 54 seconds left. Deng’s three-point play trimmed the lead to 87-84, and Bryant fouled Deng after missing his own shot on the Lakers’ possession.

The Lakers’ 13th straight Christmas appearance was the second straight for the Bulls, who returned to the holiday slate last season for the first time since the last of Michael Jordan’s six championship campaigns in 1997.

While the Bulls remained cohesive and consistent in the offseason, nobody knows what to expect from the 16-time champion Lakers after their tumultuous offseason.

Brown said he only installed about a third of his defense-based system during the truncated training camp, and he had to make further changes when the club abruptly traded Odom to Dallas no players in return after failing to acquire Chris Paul from New Orleans.

A lot of people speculated that James’ wrath over their loss at the NBA Finals finally kicked in showing a score not as close as it gets for the Mavericks.

Carmelo Anthony scored 17 fourth quarter points as the Knicks overcame a 10-point deficit opening the season with a 106-104 victory over Celtics.

Sitting the last nine minutes of the third quarter after getting his fourth foul, Anthony, who lead the Knicks to an overwhelming win after garnering 17-point lead in the first half, falling behind by eight in the third quarter.

Overall, Anthony made 10 of 17 shots and 13 of 15 free throws as the Knicks attempted 12 fourth quarter free throws — compared to just two for Boston.

Without Paul Pierce, Celtic played and had the chance to even the game when Kevin Garnett missed the buzzer. A suspension is impending for Garnett when he put his hand on Walker’s neck.

In the third quarter of the match, Knicks’ rookie Iman Shumpert suffered a sprained MCL. MRI results needed to be taken out before he can continue playing the game. They also lost Jared Jeffries after he reinjured his calf in the second half.

The Knicks victory is also capped with Amar’e Stoudemire’s 21 points, Toney Douglas’ 19. Boston Celtics’ Garnett and Ray Allen got 20 while Rajon Rondo led the team with 31 hits and 13 assists. Brandon Bass also lead the team with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

David Beckham and the LA Galaxy will play in an exhibition match against thePhilippine Azkals as part of Major League Soccer (MLS) Asian champion tour. Galaxy is the newly crowned MLS Cup champion after defeating Houston Dynamo in a thrilling 1-0 win at the Home Depot Center last Sunday.

Beckham together with his LA Galaxy teammates the likes of Landon Donovanand Robbie Keane will arrive in Manila on December 1 to face the Philippine Azkals. The Azkals have been very successful in their campaign starting with a 2-0 win over a Vietnamese side in the Suzuki Cup last year that has created great interests in the sports. The Azkals have been a household name since then and made a name for the country in football. Three Fil-foreigners will be reinforcing the Azkals in their match against the Galaxy. These are Fil-British Chris Greatwich, Fil-British Rob Gier and Fil-Icelandic Ray Jonsson will be returning to the team after missing out some of the Azkals games this year.

The Galaxy – Azkals tickets are on sale right now since Thursday at Ticketworld. The tickets are priced at Php 5,000, Php 9,500, Php 10,500 and Php 12,500 for the exhibition match. Seat locations will also be available as tickets are sold. Beckham and his troops will have their open practice on December from 9 AM to 11 AM and tickets will be available for this event at Php 3,000 for grandstand seats and Php 1,500 for the bleachers.

In the afternoon of December 2, LA Galaxy will conduct a football clinic limited only to 150 kids with a registration fee of Php 14,000 inclusive of jersey, shorts and soccer bag. It will be an opportunity for kids to play and train alongside their Galaxy idols like Beckham, Keane and Donovan.
